Abstract The certified reference material (CRM) of calorific value of isooctane is determined by the national standard of calorific value of solid fuels, an isothermal oxygen bomb calorimeter calibrated by the electric energy.The calorific value of the isooctane CRM traces to international system units including temperature, electric current, time and mass via the calibration of electric energy.The systematic errors of mass measurements and uncompleted combustion due to the volatilization of isooctane are avoided by the home-made capsule of polyethylene for the liquid sample.The gross heat of combustion of the isooctane CRM at the standard condition is 47777 J/g with an expanded uncertainty of 52 J/g (the expanded factor k=2).
