Abstract Research is carried out on two different interference fringes of contact interferometer in gauge block calibration. Both interference center and number of fringes can be obtained through Fourier series fitting method for the whole image. Conic fitting is used to calculate the accurate center of fringes in partial image. And the algorithm is programming based on Matlab and VC. Now the automatic interpretation system of interference fringes is applied on the contact interferometer of NIM.
