An Investigation of the Elastic Modulus of Zr-4 Zirconium Alloy by Impulse Excitation of Vibration |
|
|
Abstract The Young’s modulus and the shear modulus of Zr-4 zirconium alloy are investigated by impulse excitation of vibration for plates, tube stocks, pipes and bars. Within the service temperature range of the cladding in pressurized water reactors, the Young’s modulus and the shear modulus of Zr-4 zirconium alloy differ less than 10% respectively for different profiles and typical sampling directions. In the temperature range from room temperature to 400℃, the Young’s moduli for various profiles differ about 4%~5% with the value between 3.1GPa~3.9GPa while shear moduli differ about 3%~9% with the value between 1.0GPa~2.3GPa. The effective Poisson’s ratio for bars shows no significant changes with the increase of temperature, while the ratio for plates increases obviously with the rise of temperature. The effective Poisson’s ratio for tube stocks slightly decreases with minimal change with rising temperature.
