Abstract  In view of the current manual measurement of cable indentation is slow and affected by the human operation greatly, a device for automatically measuring the indentation depth of the cable and software are designed. The device sends commands to the motion control board through software to drive the motor to realize the movement control of a two-dimensional platform which is equipped with a fixture for fixing cable; At the same time, the laser sensor acquires data to obtain a data set; The set is subjected to a moving average filter process, using a differential method for the processed data set to determine if there is an indentation; Linear regression is performed on non indentation data, the indentation depth is obtained by subtracting the indentation data.The sources of the uncertainty introduced in the measurement calculation process are analyzed, and the uncertainty of the measurement results of a cable sample is evaluated, taking k=2, the expanded uncertainty U=0.028mm.
