Abstract Factors that affect the pressure accuracy of locomotive wheel-set press-fit are studied. The hydrodynamic effects of wheel-set press-fit process are derived according to Navier-Stokes equations. Dynamic simulation of the spatial velocity of hydraulic oil is carried out by using the MATLAB PDE tool and the dynamic effects of different factors on the accuracy of locomotive wheel-set press-fit is analysed by this simulation. The static factors that affect the accuracy of the wheel-set press-fit process are also proposed according to the Lame formula and the traditional friction formula. The validity and accuracy of the method are verified through the experiment. The result shows that it can improve the accuracy of press-fit force by using proper parameter of wheel-set press-fit and quadratic curve to fit the relationship between the pressure and pressing force.
