Abstract:The gold-platinum thermocouple is one of the most accurate thermocouples available. The development of calibration installation for the high-precision gold versus platinum (Au/Pt) thermocouple and process and method of calibrating thermocouple are described. The calibration installation constructed with the temperature fixed point facilities, a specified annealing furnace and a low electric motive force (EMF) measurement is fully capable to calibrate thermocouple and a new method is proposed for evaluating the uncertainty components caused by thermoelectric inhomogeneity. The measurement reproducibility of calibration installation is up to 7mK and the calibration uncertainty is 0.03℃(k=2), which is sufficient for calibrating Au/Pt thermocouples.
