Abstract:A general description of calibration methods for accelerometers is presented, with characterization made about their strengths and weaknesses. An accelerometer, selected as an example, is dynamically calibrated using shock excitation, with the device and calibration process introduced in detail. A spring-mass system with one-degree-of-freedom is applied to describe the behavior of the accelerometer and system identification is applied to determine the parameters value. The calibration result, which is the dynamic characterization of the accelerometer, is analyzed, and further, a comparison of calibration results is made with primary vibration calibration.
